Nicor Gas and ComEd have completed the environmental cleanup project in Chicago Heights, Illinois. The former Chicago Heights manufactured gas plant (MGP) was located at the southwest corner of the intersection of 16^th and State Streets in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

The project has been conducted in cooperation with, and with oversight by, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) through its voluntary Site Remediation Program (SRP). Soil exceeding Illinois EPA standards was excavated, safely loaded into trucks and disposed of at a licensed waste disposal facility. The excavation was then backfilled with clean material and the property restored.
